Black Estate sits in the heart of Waipara Valley, 45 minutes north of Christchurch. Whether you're coming for a long lunch, a tasting, a private winery tour or a few nights away, we'd love to have you here.
Our restaurant and cellar door sit on the Home vineyard, with views across the vines and valley to the Southern Alps.
The valley has a way of slowing things down from the moment you arrive.
We have accommodation on site so you can make a proper trip of it. Below you'll find everything you need to plan your visit.
Tastings
Our cellar door is open seven days a week, 10am–4pm. Walk-ins are welcome for up to four people. Enjoy a tasting at our cellar door or a wine flight or glass of wine with our snack menu, including our famous mince pies using our regeneratively raised beef. You can book lunch at our restaurant to follow your tasting.
Stay at Black Estate
Our B&B is a self contained, spacious room on the ground floor of our restaurant building. It has a south west aspect, looking out over the vines to Mount Grey and evening sunsets. Staff leave by approximately 5pm so you have the place to yourself in the evening. Two mountain bikes are included with your stay, so you can enjoy the Waipara Valley Vineyard Trail.
The Waipara Valley Vineyard Trail
The Waipara Valley Vineyard Trail is currently 8km long starting at the Glenmark Domain, near Waipara township. It winds through vineyards and farms and past 4 cellar doors. The soon to be extended trail will allow walkers and riders to travel under state highway 1 making a 14km long loop back to the township.
